EastEnders spoiler: Martin Fowler makes his return to Walford to salvage marriage to Sonia
MARTIN Fowler is set to make his return to Albert Square in the upcoming weeks, where he will be forced to confront his marital problems with wife Sonia.
Making his dramatic return, Martin – played by newcomer James Bye – will arrive in Walford amid the drama of Sonia’s collapse and stint in hospital.
Viewers will see the pair sit down for a heart-to-heart, where they will question the state of their relationship.
Sonia has been complaining about her marriage in recent weeks, claiming Martin hasn’t been paying attention to her and the spark has fizzled out in their marriage.
But after Sonia’s health scare, the pair have their first honest conversation in a long time and decide if they still have feelings for one another and still love each other.
In October, James was unveiled as the latest actor to portray Martin, who was last played by James Alexandrou until 2007.
“It’s a huge opportunity for me to put my own stamp on an iconic character and I can’t wait to get started,” he said at the time.
Executive producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins confirmed: “With James Alexandrou’s blessing – something which was very important to us – we have recast everyman Martin Fowler after extensive auditions.”
The role of Martin was previously filled by Jon Peyton Price from Martin’s early life as a baby in 1985 to 1996 but then taken on by Alexandrou for an 11-year stint.
A show insider said: “As well as reconnecting with the familiar faces of Albert Square, Martin is sure to upset a few new ones with his direct approach.
“It’s no secret that his marriage to Sonia has been slowly deteriorating and with his estranged wife seeking solace with Tina, surely it’s only a matter of time before secrets spill?”
