Forget smokey eyeshadow– this season it's all about the eyebrows…
The smokey eyebrows trend is sweeping the beauty world, with the world’s most glamorous women from Sofia Vergara to Alessandra Ambrosio embracing the new look. Using the same principles as smokey eye make-up, this technique involves using a softer approach to define the arch of the brows, for a groomed but still natural-looking finish.
We take a look at how to master the trend with a handy step-by-step guide…

Sofia Vergara often rocks softer groomed eyebrows
Step one: Start by prepping your brows by applying primer, making sure to cover the skin just over and under the eyebrows – this will hold the product in place and ensure you’re not left with a messy arch. You can also add a hint of eyebrow highlighter, tracing the line right below the eyebrow and blending it well.
Step two: Take a brow pencil matching the hairs’ colour as closely as possible, and draw a defined line underneath the brow. Then, repeat on the top of your eyebrow, but this time only focus on the tail end – don’t cover the last quarter nearest to your nose.
Step three: The key to this look is to blend, blend and blend. Using a clean mascara brush, blend the colour into the brows. Don’t stop until the lines are no longer visible – you can always go back and add definition later.

Step four: Using brow powder, fill in the outer three-quarters of your eyebrow using an angled brush. Try finding a soft-focus powder as this is easier to blend – if you don’t have any powder and need a quick fix substitute, eyeshadow can make for a great alternative. Wiggle the brush back and forth to blend in the colour and again, don’t stop until there are no visible lines left.
Step five: If you’re heading out for the full day or a night of partying, you may want to add a brow wax or gel to keep your eyebrows in place. Try and stick to matte products as these are less likely to show. Soft eyebrows work best when paired with minimal make-up so stick to just a hint of mascara or a statement lip to complete the look.
