Hear Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross' Chilling Piano Piece for Banksy's Hotel

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross contributed a foreboding new piano composition, “Green Lines,” to Banksy’s Walled Off Hotel in Bethlehem in the West Bank. The project is both an actual functioning hotel as well as an immersive art piece located near the wall that separates Israel and the Palestinian territories.

The Walled Off Hotel features nine rooms, an art gallery, a museum and a colonial-themed piano bar with an automated player piano that features original pieces from Reznor and Ross, Massive Attack’s 3D, Flea and Hans Zimmer. Reznor and Ross’ contribution, “Green Lines” – ostensibly named for the demarcation line established after the 1949 Armistice Agreement – captures the fragile tensions of the region with a portentous bass part and skittish top melody that play perfectly off each other and occasionally stretch beyond the ominous into something more hopeful.

Along with contributing to the Walled Off Hotel, Reznor and Ross have been busy with a handful of other projects. The pair recently teamed with Todd Rundgren on his song “Deaf Ears,” and shared a Nine Inch Nails mix of the track, while they’ve also been working on music for Ken Burns and Lynn Novick’s upcoming documentary, The Vietnam War. Last December, Nine Inch Nails released a new EP, Not the Actual Events. The group has a handful of festival dates lined up this summer, while Reznor also teased “two new major works” expected to arrive in 2017.
