JK Rowling, Lady Gaga, Chris Evans and more celebrities react to Trump blaming “both sides” for Charlottesville violence
JK Rowling, Lady Gaga and more celebrities have reacted in disbelief to Donald Trump’s press conference regarding recent violent events in Charlottesville.
During Tuesday’s conference the US President said, “You had a group on one side and you have a group on the other, and they came at each other with clubs.
“It was vicious and it was horrible. It was a horrible thing to watch. I think there’s blame on both sides.”
J. K. Rowling, who has made no secret of the fact she’s not a fan of Trump in the past, wrote on Twitter: “One good thing about that abomination of a speech: it’s now impossible for any Trump supporter to pretend they don’t know what he is.”
Lady Gaga wrote to her 68million followers: “For the Black Community, tell us ways the non-racist white community who loves u can do better to help influence the country?”
Chris Evans offered a play-by-play of the briefing. “Is anyone else watching this?!? Wow… it’s like watching a train wreck!! Before I make a statement I need the facts?! Since when?” he wrote on Twitter. “This is insane,” he later added.
Lin-Manuel Miranda put it bluntly: “Impeach this bad man.”
“What… the… F*** is happening with our country? Our president just… sided… with… Nazis and white nationalists,” Patton Oswalt shared.
Both Mandy Moore and Michael Moore were in disbelief. “I can NOT believe what I’m watching on television right now. How is this man our president? Honestly?” Mandy wrote, while Michael asked, “What did we just watch?”
The rally was originally called to protest the removal of a statue of General Robert E Lee, who defended slavery for the south in American civil war.
During the rally, groups of protesters were filmed holding torches and chanting “blood and soil” and “jews will never replace us.”
As tempers raised during the rally, a car drove into a crowd of anti-fascist protesters, killing one and injuring 20 more.
