Jungle Craig Charles’s tragic brother was fire hero
Dean Charles receiving a commendation for his fire rescue
Dean Charles, 52, who died from a heart attack, served with Merseyside Police for 13 years and was recognised for his bravery after he saved a mother and her two children from a fire.
He was a young PC when a block of flats next to his police station in Tuebrook, Liverpool, caught ablaze and the young family were trapped on the top floor.
Dean braved the flames to lead them to safety.
He was a lovely man, very hard-working
A former colleague said: “It was the part he played in a rescue for which he was given a special commendation from the Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society that I will always remember. He was a lovely man, very hard-working.”
Father-of-two Dean quit the police in 1996 and moved to Spain.
Coronation Street star Craig, 50, was told the news of his brother’s death on Wednesday while he was in the I’m A Celebrity jungle. The actor left the show immediately.
