With two games left to play in Champions League Group E, Manchester City and Bayern Munich are in decidedly contrasting situations.
Bayern have already confirmed qualification for the next round and first place in the group. Man City are bottom and in need of a win on Tuesday to keep possible progression in their own hands.
The German champions beat their English counterparts 1-0 in September through a late Jerome Boateng winner. The home side will hope Pep Guardiola’s side eases up at the Etihad Stadium, but the Bayern boss may well prefer to extinguish the threat of City now rather than have them potentially come back to haunt his team later in the competition.
Though Munich are without the likes of Philipp Lahm and David Alaba, their deep squad should be able to cope. In both the Champions League and domestic affairs this season, just about anyone who has been called upon has performed well.
By comparison, there is more uncertainty about how their Premier League opponents will fare without the suspended Fernandinho and Yaya Toure and the injured Edin Dzeko and David Silva. They have the number but not necessarily the quality to match a rampant Bayern. Their inconsistent form with their first-choice players available suggests it could be even more of a struggle without them.
The action kicks off at 7:45 p.m. GMT (2:45 p.m. ET). Check back here from an hour before kick-off for team news, and stick around for updates throughout the match.
