Mel C reveals how she developed a 'healthy attitude' towards food
Mel C has revealed that she would never discuss diets in front of her daughter. The former Spice Girl, who has been outspoken about her struggle with eating disorders, said she was determined to be a good role model to her daughter Scarlet, eight, in an interview with Top Santé magazine.

“I don’t want anybody talking about losing weight in front of her,” Mel told the magazine, before revealing that becoming a mother was a big factor in her developing a “healthy attitude” to food. The 43-year-old admitted that her weight dropped to less than eight stone in her late teens, which she said was due to training for up to 12 hours a day when she joined a performing arts college and “knowing nothing” about nutrition.

However she says is now “finally happy” with her figure, after developing a healthier approach to food. “Becoming a mum was a big part of that, because when I was pregnant I had to feed myself and the baby,” Mel said. The singer has been outspoken about her previous struggles with body image, and said she often uses exercise as a way of boosting her mood. “Exercise is a very important part of me. I’m a very physical person,” she told French magazine MODZIK in December. “It always sounds so clichéd of course, Sporty Spice, but as long as I can remember I did sports and I’ve danced, so physicality is very important to me.

“My mind-body connection is very strong, which is a great thing as a performer, but sometimes it can be hard in an emotional sense. When I’m feeling down or vulnerable, I’m very connected to it, so I feel very heavy, which sometimes makes things hard physically as well.” As a result, the British beauty ensures she stays as active as possible, confessing that she struggles to keep still. “It’s a bit of an obsession, to be active and to move, to release those endorphins,” she said. “The synergy between mind and body is very important to me. It’s a very fluid thing, I don’t like to be static.”
