“This guy single-handedly ruined the word ‘Motherfucker,'” Ryan Reynolds’ protection agent character says about Samuel L. Jackson’s hitman character in a new trailer for Lionsgate’s The Hitman’s Bodyguard. Judging from the clip, the meta statement alluding to Jackson’s infamous MF-wielding status hints at a film that likely pokes fun at itself while delivering action-packed scenes.

The plot involves a “Triple A-rated executive protection agent” (Reynolds) being assigned the task of guarding a notorious hitman (Jackson). The pair clearly dislike each other. While sitting in a car, the hitman threatens, “I will bust a cap in your ass.” The protection agent queries, “Have you ever said, ‘Please?'” to which the hitman’s (obvious) response is, “Please, motherfucker!”

Lots of things explode and blow up, there are car chases, loads of guns and plenty of punches thrown, including Reynolds’ character hitting Jackson’s character. There are also, naturally, tons of expletives.

To ratchet up the self-referential themes, the clip is set to Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You,” the theme song from the similarly titled The Bodyguard film that also starred the late singer.

Co-starring Gary Oldman, Salma Hayek, Elodie Yung, Joaquim De Almeida, Kirsty Mitchell and Richard E. Grant, The Hitman’s Bodyguard opens on August 18th.
