Bye! The Apprentice star Felipe Alviar-Baquero was fired by Lord Sugar in this evening's show

Lawyer Felipe Alviar-Baquero has become the latest candidate to be fired from the BBC reality show after a row with Lord Sugar over a paper skeleton – which later sparked outrage on Twitter among fans.

The two teams were sent on a treasure hunt around London, where they had to source items including a diamond, some kosher chickens and a full-size, anatomically correct skeleton.

Controversy arose when Alviar-Baquero suggested to his team that a flat-pack skeleton would cost a fraction of the price of a 3D model – but unimpressed show boss Lord Sugar fined the team for their risky move.

The unexpected fine meant the Lawyer’s team lost the competition and the Colombian hopeful was unceremoniously fired.

Disguted Twitter users took to Twitter to slam Lord Sugar’s shock decision.

Isobel Forey wrote: “Felipe’s decision was brave, refreshing and completely justifiable. Disgusted that Lord Sugar was too small-minded to see it. #skeletongate”

While Sarah Viggers tweeted: “Livid over #skeletongate! Lost a lot of respect for @Lord_Sugar, punishing for creativity when Fillipe was clearly within the rules.

Undeterred, the 33-year-old defended his decision and said, as a lawyer, he didn’t see anything in the description calling for a ready-built figure.

He explained: “If someone sends you for coffee at the best price, you go and get instant coffee I presume. It might not be beans but it’s still coffee.

The star disagreed with Lord Sugar's instructions for the competition

“You never know how Lord Sugar’s going to react, so I knew it would be risky and I would be silly to think he was going to say, ‘Congratulations’.

“But it was quite funny, because all day people were calling me an absolute genius. They were all saying, ‘How did he manage to think of that? It’s amazing, we’re going to win’.”

The lawyer was the 13th contestant scrapped from this year’s show, which is in its ninth year.

Speaking after he was fired, Felipe added: “One of the reasons I went on the show was to inspire people to be courageous and think outside the box.

Lord Sugar is notoriously hard to please and didn't like Felipe answering back

“It was a difficult one because there was nothing in the instructions to say it had to be assembled, but Lord Sugar didn’t see my point.”

Alviar-Baquero went on to say he felt let down by the way the rest of his team – Daniel Lassman, Katie Bulmer-Cooke and Mark Wright – turned on him over the blunder.

“Nick (Hewer, Sugar’s aide) was right when he pointed out to the rest of the team that they knew the whole way through what I was buying,” he said.

“It was difficult to take from the guys because I owned up to my decision and I think that’s what everyone should do, be truthful about what you know all the way through.”

The Apprentice continues on BBC1 on Wednesdays at 9pm.
