The new HIIT
The craze for high intensity training isn’t showing any signs of slowing down just yet, but it is set to get a new lease of life in 2017 with a number of new HIIT classes available. One such class is Strong by Zumba, an intense workout that has revolutionised HIIT by syncing the moves to music developed especially in the studio by renowned music producers including Timbaland.
Strong by Zumba has already had rave reviews following its launch in the US, and is set to make its way across the pond in early 2017.
Models like Gigi Hadid and Adriana Lima have helped to transform the image of boxing, and it is rapidly growing in popularity. Studios such as London’s KOBOX offer a number of high intensity boxing classes, while The Boxx Method (launching 1 January 2017) offers boxing-inspired workouts that you can follow from home with just a pair of hand weights.
Mixed format classes
Who says you have to do just one workout per class? While classes including Barry’s Bootcamp have long offered a fusion of different exercises, the trend is set to grow in 2017 with a number of gyms and fitness studios combining strength and cardio in innovative new workouts.
From Boxerina workouts (boxing meets barre) to Piloxing (pilates, boxing and dance) there’s a fitness fusion for everyone.
There are no excuses for missing your workout with the plethora of innovative and effective fitness apps on offer. These look set to gain popularity in 2017 due to the fact they can be used anywhere and anytime, often with no equipment.

Alternatively try Kayla Itsines’ Sweat with Kayla app, which brings the Instagram sensation’s bikini body guides into one functional app that also offers recipe suggestions and a before and after comparison of your progress.
Even the most motivated person can sometimes find it difficult to fit their fitness routine into their busy lifestyle, which is where express workouts come in. More and more gyms and exercise studios are capitalising on their time-poor customers by creating shorter workouts that promise the same impressive results.
Take Barrecore‘s new 45-minute Signature Express classes. These lunchtime classes will target every muscle group with an extra focus on one area such as flexibility on different days of the week. BOOM Cycle in London also offers 30-minute lunchtime classes for a quick cardio fix.
