Williams reveals baby name and shares first photos
Serena Williams has shared the first pictures of her daughter on social media and revealed the name of her new baby.
“Meet Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr” the tennis star posted on Instagram, along with a series of videos filmed throughout her pregnancy and after her daughter’s birth.
The athlete also revealed she had spent six days in hospital due to unspecified complications with the birth.
The baby is the first child for Williams, 35, and her fiance, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, after whom the child is named.
She was born on 1 September and weighed 6lbs 14oz, her mother said.
“We’re leaving the hospital after six days. It’s been a long time,” Williams said in one video.
“We had a lot of complications but look what we got!” she added, while cuddling her new baby.
The American tennis player confirmed her pregnancy in April after accidentally posting a selfie on Snapchat with the caption “20 weeks”.
She was two months pregnant when she won her 23rd grand slam singles title at the Australian Open in January.
The world’s highest-paid female athlete told Vogue last month that she plans to defend her title in Australia next year.
